Worker’s Cottage 2.0
Completed 2017 with Jono Coates and McCarthy Builders.
We demolished the dilapidated hundred-year-old workers cottage (after freezing through two winters in it) and reimagined a worker’s cottage for the 21st century young professional.
Like the original, our solution was simple and modest, with a gable roof facing the street to complement its neighbours.
Unlike the original, it was light and bright, smartly oriented for the site and the sun path, well insulated, and easy to maintain.
This design was an exercise in minimalism and necessity. A strong guiding concept and a fantastic builder ensured that completion was incredibly smooth.
